Why I Love These Black Magic Jello SHOTS
The secret to how awesome these jello shots look lies in the layering — one layer glowing like toxic slime (in the best way), the other dark and mysterious, with chewy boba pearls adding a creepy-cool texture twist. It’s the perfect blend of playful and spooky, a treat that teases your taste buds and your inner sorcerer.
They are also perfect for making ahead of your awesome Halloween party – so grab your cauldron (or, you know, a mixing bowl), a little vodka, and a lot of attitude — it’s time to whip up a batch of magic.

Directions For Making Black Magic Shots
Prepare the cups:
Line up your shot cups or silicone molds on a tray.
Make the green layer:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1 box of lime Jello with 1 cup boiling water until completely dissolved.
Stir in ½ cup cold water and ½ cup vodka.
Pour this mixture halfway into each cup.
Chill for 60–90 minutes, or until the layer is mostly set but still slightly tacky to the touch.
Make the black layer:
In another bowl, dissolve the second box of lime Jello in 1 cup boiling water.
Stir in ½ cup cold water, ½ cup vodka, and a few drops of black food coloring until you reach a deep, spooky hue.
Note – you DO NOT need a lot of black food coloring to make a great color, learn from my mistakes!
Gently pour this black layer over the set green layer.
Chill completely:
Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or overnight, until firm.
Garnish:
Once the top layer fully sets and right before serving, add a spoonful of black boba pearls onto each shot for that cauldron-bubble effect.
Tip:
You can make these in advance and store them, with the lids on, in the fridge, for up to 4 days before serving. Do not freeze.
