What is a Pink Paloma?

The Pink Paloma is a refreshing take on the classic Margarita. It is a citrusy, tart drink that can be enjoyed with friends or family.

Paloma means dove in Spanish so this drink is called a Pink Dove.

It’s the perfect drink to enjoy during summertime festivities like picnics and barbecues. These cocktails are perfect for any occasion. I have served these at a girls night, Taco Tuesday and even at a bridal shower party (see this list for even more pink bridal shower drinks)

If you are a fan of grapefruit cocktails like our Grapefruit Mimosa, you will love the Pink Paloma. It is so easy to make and simply delicious.

The pink color comes from grapefruit juice or soda, you could also use regular grapefruit soda if you want an un-pink paloma!

What Garnish is best for a Pink Paloma?

how to garnish a pink paloma

I like to garnish my Pink Palomas with a grapefruit slice.

I find that the citrus fruits compliment the drink perfectly.

If you don’t have a grapefruit wedge you can opt for a lime slice. You could also garnish with a sprig of mint or rosemary if you’re looking for something a little different.

Some people like to make a salt rim for their paloma drinks.  To do this, simply dip the rim of your glass in fresh lime juice and then into kosher salt. Set aside for it to dry before pouring the drink.

Can I use something else instead of tequila?

If you’re not a fan of tequila I would recommend switching to vodka.

You can still get the beautiful pink hue from the grapefruit soda.

The lime juice will add a little bit of tartness to the drink but it will be refreshing nonetheless.

You can also swap it out for a non alcoholic spirit or kombucha.

What if I don’t like the taste of grapefruit?

If you don’t like the taste of grapefruit I would recommend using a different type of citrus soda.

You could use orange soda, lemon-lime soda, or even cranberry soda. The key is to find something that has a little bit of sweetness and tartness.

I can’t find Pink Grapefruit Juice anywhere, what should I do?

If you can’t find Pink Grapefruit Juice I would recommend using fresh grapefruit juice.

You can add a splash of cranberry juice or pomegranate juice to give the cocktail a beautiful pink hue.

You can also use sparkling water if you want to retail the bubbles from then grapefruit soda.

A Pink Paloma is different than a Margarita in a few ways.

First, Pink Palomas use tequila blanca while Margaritas traditionally call for tequila reposado.

Second, Palomas are mixed with grapefruit juice while Margaritas are made with lime juice and orange liqueur.

Finally, Pink Palomas are served over ice in a highball glass.

How strong is this cocktail?

The Pink Paloma is a refreshing and light cocktail. It’s not too sweet and it’s not too strong.

The tequila is there for flavor so if you’re looking for a stronger drink you can always add an extra shot (or two).
