Traffic Light Shot

The traffic light shot cocktail is a delicious and easy to make drink that tastes fruity and refreshing.

It is very similar to the Flaming Bob Marley shot that is set on fire. The Traffic light shot does not include rum, however so it is a slightly less potent shot.

Whether you are attending a traffic light party (do those still exist?) or you are looking to impress your guests with a fun shot, the traffic light cocktail is for you.

With only three simple ingredients, all you need is a steady hand for pouring and you are ready to celebrate.

What Is A Traffic Light Shot?

what is a traffic light shot

Simply put, A traffic light is an awesome shot that looks exactly like a traffic light thanks to the red, yellow and green layers.

You can make this easy shot in minutes and looks really impressive.

It tastes very fruity thanks to the 3 layers which include Midori or melon liqueur, grenadine and banana liqueur.

The key to making the shot look amazing is to really pour each ingredient into the shot glass very slowly using a cocktail spoon.

This way you will get nice clean layers.

You can easily increase the ingredients for this shot to turn it into a cocktail.

Variation on The Traffic Light: The Flaming Bob Marley

The most popular variation of the red, yellow and green shot is, of course, the Flaming Bob Marley.

The Flaming Bob Marley has the same 3 ingredients as the traffic light cocktail with the addition of overproof Rum such as the Jamaican (of course!) Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum.

Many people know this shot as having Bacardi Rum 151 but this was discontinued in 2016 in the US and Canada so you need to use a different overproof rum.

So for the flaming Bob Marley, you will need:

  • Grenadine
  • Creme de banane
  • Melon Liqueur (Creme de Menthe is also an option).
  • Overproof Rum

Layer each ingredient the same way as the traffic light shot but for the last layer, combine the rum and melon liqueur but save about 1/2 the rum to put on right at the end on top of the other layers.

To turn the Bob Marley into a flaming shot, carefully light the rum. Be very careful as it is extremely flammable.

Blow out the flame and shoot the shot.
