Rainbow Jello Shots Ingredients
I’ve done layering before with my Candy Corn Jello Shots for Halloween and my Mardi Gras jello shots too.
These rainbow shots take it to the next level.
Whether you are looking for something special to serve for St Patrick’s Day or you are looking for a fun Pride party cocktail, you’ll love these brightly colored jello shots.
Although the full recipe only fills about 7 jello shot cups, you can make a big batch by multiplying the recipe.

Ingredients Needed:
- 5 envelopes clear Knox gelatin
- 9 cups water
- 1 cup Rum
- 2 drops green food gel
- 2 drops yellow food gel
- 2 drops orange food gel
- 2 drops blue food gel
- 2 drops red food gel
- 10 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons rainbow sprinkles
- Whipped cream for topping
- 1 strip rainbow airhead sour strips
How To Make Rainbow Jello Shots
The trick to getting your layered jello is to make sure each layer to completely set before making the next one.
Don’t rush the process otherwise your colors will bleed into each other.
Below you have the full instructions for each layer but really the process is the same for each one.
Just remember to add rum in two of the layers.
Step 1: The Green Layer
Boil one cup water with two tablespoons sweetened condensed milk.
Mix in one envelope clear gelatin into the hot water and whisk well.
Add 1/2 cup rum and 1/2 cup water. Add in the green food coloring.
Whisk well.
Pour green layer to 1/5 of the cup.
Place a lid on top of the jello shot cups and pop into the fridge for two hours or until set.
Step 2: The Yellow Layer
Boil one cup water with two tablespoons sweetened condensed milk.
Mix in one envelope clear gelatin into the hot water and whisk well.
Add one cup cold water and two drops yellow food gel.
Pour yellow layer to 1/5 of the cup.
Place a lid on top of the jello shot cups and pop into the fridge for two hours or until set.
Step 3: The Orange Layer
Boil one cup water with two tablespoons sweetened condensed milk.
Mix in one envelope clear gelatin into the hot water and whisk well.
Add 1/2 cup rum and 1/2 cup water. Add in the orange food coloring.
Whisk well.
Pour orange layer to 1/5 of the cup.
Place a lid on top of the jello shot cups and pop into the fridge for two hours or until set.
Step 4: The Blue Layer
Boil one cup water with two tablespoons sweetened condensed milk.
Mix in one envelope clear gelatin into the hot water and whisk well.
Add one cup cold water and two drops blue food gel.
Whisk well.
Pour blue layer to 1/5 of the cup.
Place a lid on top of the jello shot cups and pop into the fridge for two hours or until set.
Step 5: The Red Layer
Boil one cup water with two tablespoons sweetened condensed milk.
Mix in one envelope clear gelatin into the hot water and whisk well. Add one cup cold water and two drops red food gel.
Whisk well.
Pour red layer to 1/5 of the cup.
Place a lid on top of the jello shot cups and pop into the fridge for two hours or until set.
Step 4: The Garnish
Once all layers are set and the jello shots are ready to serve top with whipped topping, a piece or rainbow airheads, and rainbow sprinkles.
Rainbow Jello Shots: FAQS
Can I use something other than rum in my jello shots?
I normally use rum in my Jello Shots as it takes on the flavor of the jello but you can definitely use vodka or tequila if you prefer.
Can I make these without alcohol?
It is easy to make these jello shots for your non-drinking guests too!
All you have to do is omit the 1/2 cup of rum in the green and orange layers and substitute for more water instead.
Is is possible to make these jello shots ahead of time?
Yes!
The beauty of jello shots is that you can make them 24-48 hours ahead of your party and then just get the out of the fridge when you are ready to serve.
Just make sure to leave off the whipped cream and sprinkles until just before you serve these treats.
Rainbow Jello Shots
Impress your friends with the vibrant colors and sweet taste of these rainbow jello shots. . Not only do they look great, but they are simple to make too!
Ingredients
- Hot and cold water
- 10 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 5 packages clear gelatin
- 1 cup white Rum
- Whipped cream
- Rainbow sprinkles
- Food coloring gel in green, yellow, orange, blue and red
- 1 Rainbow sour belt
Instructions
- Follow the instructions below to make each layer. Make sure to let each layer set below pouring the next one on.
- Substitute 1/2 cup of cold water for 1/2 cup of rum in the green and orange layers only.
- To make the each layer, boil one cup water with two tablespoons sweetened condensed milk.
- Mix in one envelope of clear gelatin, Whisk well.
- Add 1/2 cup rum and 1/2 cup cold water for the green and orange layers and 1 cup of water for the other colors.
- Add in 2 drops of green food coloring. Whisk well.
- Pour green layer to 1/5 of the plastic cup. Place into the fridge for two hours or until set.
- Continue making each layer the same way,
- When ready to serve, top with whipped cream and sprinkles.
