Summer is the best time to create some fun cocktails with seasonal fruits and this tropical blueberry cooler is one of my favorites.
This rum and blueberry Cocktail is has a tropical mix of juices, fresh raspberries and a sour kick of blue raspberry.
I used fresh blueberries for this drink as they are in season right now and are so plump and juicy but you could easily use frozen wild blueberries too.
This fruity concoction is perfect for sipping on a patio or enjoying by the pool. Read on for the recipe and all the details.

Why you’ll love this Blueberry Rum Cooler
This Rum Cooler recipe is:
- Tart and refreshing
- Perfect for summer nights
- Great for any occasion
- Easy to make
- Impressive
- A great drink to serve at a shower or afternoon event.
What is the Blueberry Cocktail made of?
There are four different fruits that make up this cocktail which makes it taste really tropical and summery. For alcohol, you have coconut rum and also blue raspberry Sour Puss.
My version of this blueberry cooler contains the following:
- 1 1/4 oz Malibu Rum
- 6 oz pineapple juice
- 1 1/4 oz Blue Raspberry Sour Puss
- 8-10 Fresh blueberries
If you want to substitute the Malibu or coconut rum for a different white rum you can totally do that although personally I love the coconut taste of Malibu, especially mixed with pineapple juice. It is so tropical and reminds me of vacations.
What is Sour Puss?
Sour Puss Blue Liqueur is a turquoise blue colour with the sweet/tart aromas of blue popsicle with spicy, candied cinnamon aromas.
You can buy it at liquor stores but if you can’t find it, you can use a citrus liqueur such as Triple Sec and add a few drops of blue food coloring to your drink.
If you don’t want the alcohol then you can use soda water and blue food coloring or non-alcoholic Blue Curacao like the Torani Blue Curacao Syrup.
What tools do I need to make the Tropical Blueberry Cooler?
You really don’t need much in order to make this cocktail which makes it perfect for any party or large gathering when you want to whip them up in minutes.
The only tool you’ll need to make this cocktail:
- A muddler for crushing the blueberries.
- A cocktail shaker
- A strainer for pouring the drink without the ice.
Don’t have the tools you need?
You can use the wrong end of a wooden spoon instead of a muddler.
If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, a large mason jar works just as well in a pinch.
Use the mason jar lid or a plate to strain the drink if you don’t own a strainer.
