Although these delicious jello shots are the color of the ocean, the name actually comes from the type of Jello used.

The US fast food chain, Sonic, has an amazing drink called Ocean Water that is a mix of blue coconut water, ice and Sprite.

They also make a Jello version of the drink which is what we are using in these shots.

Want to make blue ocean jello shots but can’t get hold of the Ocean Water Jello?

You have a few options:

  • You can use blueberry jello to get the right color
  • Alternatively, you can use clear gelatin and flavor it blue with food coloring and use coconut water instead of cold water in the recipe.

Tips For Making Great Jello Shots

  • Do not add whipped cream to the top of your shots if you’re not serving them right away. You’ll want to keep lids on your shots and garnish them right before serving.
  • You can use any rum or alcohol you prefer, just don’t go over half a cup of alcohol or the jello won’t set.
  • You can keep these in the fridge for up to 5 days, with lids.
  • To make a non-alcoholic version of these Ocean Water jello shots so everyone can enjoy them – just use water instead of the half a cup of rum
