The classic cocktails are always a hot topic, and the Smoked Old Fashioned is no exception.

While this drink requires some special equipment (a smoking gun) it’s well worth trying for those looking to make their drinks even more over-the top!

A traditional cocktail gives you only one flavor at each sip; in contrast this variant has hints of smokiness with every swallow.

What Is An Old Fashioned Cocktail?

An old fashioned cocktail is made with whiskey, water, sugar, and bitters. It can be served on the rocks or neat. Whiskey is the most common spirit used in an old-fashioned because it gives the drink its signature warmth.

That being said, the Spiced Rum Old Fashioned is another really popular version.

What About The Smoking Gun?

I’ll admit I was kind of excited to try a smoked cocktail as they look amazing and are perfect for so many different drinks and foods.

A smoking gun is a tool that is used to cold smoke food. It is a small handheld device that adds smoke without heat making it suitable for use inside.

Most smoking guns, like the one I got from Amazon, come with wood chips so you are all set to go.

You can use a smoking gun to make all kinds of neat things from smoked cheese and meat to fun cocktails like this smoked old fashioned!

Although they can look a bit intimidating, it only takes a few minutes to get your smoking gun up and running and they are really easy to use.

Here’s the one I have. I got it from Amazon and it has great reviews.

Other than the smoking gun, you don’t need any other tools to make this cocktail other than a jigger or measuring cup.

Add the whiskey and ice. Add back the smoked sugar cube and orange.
